睽違8個月，老虎王牌韋藍德(Justin Verlander)終於要重返投手丘。球團9日宣布，他將在本周日先發對戰印地安人，進行傷癒後首戰。
韋藍德季前因右肱三頭肌受傷，開季被放入傷兵名待觀察，經過一段時間的靜養後，2周前開始在3A進行復健賽，首戰先發3.2局失3分退場，但球速最快來到152公里；第2場5.2局用球數93球，飆出9K沒有保送，無失分，顯然已從傷兵中復原。
老虎總教練阿斯莫斯(Brad Ausmus)今日表示，將安排韋藍德在14日與印地安人系列戰第2場掛帥先發，「我們之前就有跟他談論過這件事，所以並不突然。今天就跟他確認，週日將要上場。」
由於是傷癒後首場大聯盟出賽，韋藍德在用球數方面勢必有些限制，阿斯莫斯表示：「我們雖然沒有強制規定用球數多少，但當然不可能馬上就投跟他以前一樣，大概會比他上一場復健賽還多，不會超過115球。」
韋藍德去年與印地安人交手5次，雖在30.1局中送出30次三振，但防禦率4.75，被打擊率更是高達3成01，僅拿下1勝2敗。
老虎今天與小熊系列賽的首戰，靠著桑契斯(Anibal Sanchez)7.2局7K，無失分的好投，以及卡布雷拉(Miguel Cabrera)單場3安猛打賞，團隊13安打火力加持下，以6比0完封對手，拿下3連勝。
